Speckled Wood

I retrieved this poor tattered chap from the conservatory this morning and found him half an hour later sunbathing gamely. He could still fly in a lurching kind of way but goodness knows what happened to his wing.

A very enjoyable day. The sun has been shining and Robert and Finola came to lunch then we did a pleasant ramble out through fields to a stony beach and then back up green roads to home. There was warmth in the sun and the water felt almost swimmable. I have given Finola a copy of the book for her to proof read- nerve-wracking, it feels like being back at school. She's getting out her red pencil.

Ladies' book club tonight and I haven't been for ages. We should be discussing Edith Pearlman's collection of short stories 'Binocular Vision' which I'm struggling to remember. Catch up tomorrow.
