new years eve

tired of watching the tv, we headed out at new year to the cinema! :-) we went into ambleside, where the rather fancy named zefferelli's was showing sherlock homes. we both loved it, but we're suckers for that kind of film. it turned out the showing was in the 'sister' cinema, a trendy vege restaurant-winebar-cinema. it was lovely if a little weird. nice coffee, big comfy seats, not too expensive. if we'd realised we probably would've stayed for dinner too, but we reckoned on NYE the place would be full! besides, we had a lovely dinner planned, board games in front of the fire & a bottle of champagne. by far the most civilised and easy way to see in the new year.

it was a blue moon. two full moons in one month and the light was amazing. a weird kind of day light in the middle of the night. this is the house attached to the cottages we were staying in. i took some other long exposures too looking the other way and sure enough the light did look like day.

after that, we stood out in the moonlight at midnight, watching the stars and celebrating the moon. not a bad life really. :-)
