London to Brighton

A long day but a fun one taking part in the British Heart Foundation London to Brighton bike ride. The 54 mile route, starting at Clapham Common and ending at Madeira Drive, should have taken us about four hours but took twice that due mainly to the massive numbers of cyclists on the route. When the ride first took place, in 1976, there were 60 riders; this year there were 30,000. There were many stretches when all you could do was walk and push your bike and there was much stopping and starting and queuing. All very good humoured though and all sorts of novelty participants including a very speedy girl on roller skates and a couple of guys on baby bikes.
