Thank you so much to everyone who offered very constructive critique on my journal yesterday; it is very much appreciated. Simply starting again from the RAW image has produced a better photograph but I now have a much better idea of how to go about taking a long exposure pic and will have a go again very soon.

Please may I ask another question:- how do you decide where to put the point in curves. I've just started using curves and am getting some pleasing results but I just stab in the dark so to speak...
