Oh what a wonderful day

We had a wonderful day exploring more of Orkney. Starting with a blipmeet with Poppy in her lovely home with super views. We had a good chat and it was so nice to put a face to another of my blip friends and to see first hand some of the sights Poppy has blipped. I kept pointing them out to Mike when I spotted them. I was able to meet Ollie as well such a gentle , well behaved dog who kept looking out of the window everytime a vehicle went past just to check who it was.

We then drove up to Stromness and had lunch in Julias. After a lazy stroll round the old fashioned town with it's little craft shops we sat and watched the boats going in and out of the harbour. A tall ship and the ferry were berthed there and a number of colourful fishing boats.

We walked along to Ness point and beyond hoping to see the orca that had been spotted the day before but think it was a case of ' you should have been here yesterday'according to one of the locals who does the same walk twice a day and it was the first time he had seen them in 10 years and they were playing just off shore, We did see the seals that they come in to feed on though so they were safe today.

On to the Ring of Brodgar which we had to ourselves again. The sun was casting great shadows of these great stones as the skylarks filled the air with there song.

The stones of Stenness looked even bigger against the blue sky and we had fun trying to get a photo of our shadows with the stones.

Up to the top of Wideford Hill to take in the clear views of Kirkwall and the area around. The sun was beginning to go down as Mike went down to the chambered Cairn. I stayed and sat on the heather.

Back to Kirkwall in time to watch the sun go down behind the boats. A quick visit to Tescos and back at 11.30pm with still plenty of light in the sky and a wonderful orange glow over the islands. Then Bed !
