Barcelona Day 1

The alarm went of at 3:45am this morning, with 4 hours sleep Claire and I were heading towards Birmingham to catch our flight to Barcelona. We were very happy to hear the French were not striking so there would be no delay for our flight. We landed early and headed straight for the city centre.

I instantly fell in love with the city with its mix of old and new, vibrant people and architecture which is just mind blowing.

Its so nice to just sit and watch the world go by from a pavement bar and that's what we did at lunchtime, drinking an ice cold beer and eating a cheese and serrano ham baguette. A little afternoon siesta to recharge our batteries after the early start and we were off to dinner for a great Tapas meal followed by a pretty amazing Waffle.

No late night partying for us tonight as we are so tired but looking forward to tomorrow for more holiday fun.

Blip is of an art installation on the street:

The architect Benedetta Tagliabue and the stage director Àlex Ollé have organised a significant intervention in the city this year. In the context of the commemoration events encompassed in the Tercentenary BCN programme, some of Barcelona’s most symbolic public spaces will change thanks to a set of artistic and architectural installations that propose a reflection upon such concepts as identity, freedom and democracy.
