A Traditional Swedish table, new but from the 1700
The setting is an old chapel, built at the start of the 1900’s but now disused. It’s evening. This piece of furniture is produced by the “Wood Academy” in Kramfors who have a course teaching people how to make furniture in the old, traditional way. We were here to look at examples of their work, listen to a talk about old furniture and why traditional furniture makers can make a living today, and many other things to do with culture, the state, the government, and old buildings, particularly historic old buildings.
We heard what was special about Swedish (to some extent Scandinavian) furniture and how it came to be like that. We also learned about China as an inspiration for furniture in the 1700’s.
A really interesting evening and we met up with a lot of old friends. The furniture is going to be on display at Manne Minne and a couple of pieces can be seen this summer at Ytterlännas old church. Both places are well worth visiting if you are in the area!
PS If you click on the Ytterlännas link you can hear Jan opening up the singing of Solis Previa.
PPS Check out yesterday's backblip.
