Life in Newburgh on Ythan

Skipper

Another day, another dolphin. This is Skipper, the creation of Artist Sophie Green. Skipper, who lives on the Pocra Quay at Footdee at the entrance to Aberdeen Harbour, is tastefully decorated with a design based on herrings, a tribute to the fishing community in Aberdeen. The statue sits near to the Silver Darling Seafood Restaurant as is appropriate seeing that Silver darling is the Scottish nickname for the herring.

No dolphins were harmed in the creation of this blip, although Skipper has been somewhat "beamed up" for artistic effect!

(The city is hosting the Wild Dolphins project, which has seen 50 spectacular life-sized fibreglass sculptures of bottle-nosed dolphins – usually spotted off the North-east coast – popping up all over town. Organised by Wild in Art with The ARCHIE Foundation, the official charity of the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, and Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC), the dolphins can be seen until August 29, before being auctioned to raise money for the two charities.)
