Cherries

We have a cherry tree in our front garden, and right now it's covered in a heavy crop of cherries.

This type of cherry, apparently, isn't ripe until it's a deep maroon colour. I say "apparently" because we never get to see them like that. Note the number of cherryless stalks; we have a pair of blackbirds in the garden who are quite happy to eat them under-ripe, and on past performance they'll clear the tree long before we manage to harvest any!
