Just Hangin' Around

If I have a pocket camera with me, I start out pretty far away from any bugs for the first shot, just to be sure I have something for identification. Maybe I'll even use the zoom. Then I just keep stretching my arms out in front of me, and maybe taking baby steps closer and closer. If I get confident I will retract the zoom as I bend even closer. I can usually manage to get pretty close that way before I cross some invisible buggy comfort line and my subject spooks away. It looks like this moth has a damaged wing to contend with as well as a human invader, but I was surprised I got as far as I did. This creature usually is flitting about so much that it's hard to catch it standing still.

A very Happy Birthday to Mr S!
