High Times

Katie concentrating hard, high up on the Stand Up Paddleboard, pretty and tough in her pink shortie at Belhaven this afternoon. The sea was as warm as it's been this year - nobody wore wetsuit gloves and I was OK without shoes (the ever-growing boys stole mine!) but Katie was pretty chilly by the time we gathered round the barbecue for sausages and cookies.

We rode on our bikes down to our favourite spot and set up the windbreak and lit the barbie before blowing up the board and diving in. After we'd eaten we suddenly realised were entirely surrounded by water - it was an exceptionally high spring tide today! So "just in time" instantly became a mad panic to go the long way round and get home to wash, hang up all the surf gear and pack to go off for the week - London for me, the other side of the family for them. Made it! Phew.

Church this morning which everyone enjoyed. That's not something we've done before so it was great that Katie and Gordon were delighted with the "Launchpad" Sunday School and the older lads were quite interested in the main service. The same old Church of Scotland that I grew up in but so much more positive and outward-looking. We heard from Reverend Twaddle (yes, really, Twaddle!) about Crossreach, the practical side of the church and we sang upbeat hymns which at times were really lovely with male and female parts that we got fairly quickly. All good and we'll be making a habit of it - much to many people's surprise!
