Snow Bunting

Well it appears there is still plenty of snow up on the ski slopes near Aviemore. The drive up didn't really see much snow at all, save for over the Drumochter Pass, and Aviemore itself only really seemed to be hanging on to the stuff that had been shovelled off the road. So after a quick dip into town for a productive search for new walking boots, we headed to Inverdruie to check into the wee guesthouse we were staying in (the Old Minister's House), then headed out for a drive up to the ski centre (where the closer we got the more snowy the scenery became), then round to Loch Garten.

By this time it was getting dark, but we still had a couple of hours to kill, so headed up towards the ski centre again. Discretion proved the better part of valour, however, as the newly falling snow, and diminishing traffic, meant the going was becoming slippery, and holding 20mph uphill was getting progressively more difficult. So three-point-turn and back to the guesthouse, then a fantastic dinner in Ord Ban right beside it.

Best place to eat in the area bar none I reckon now (that had been the title belonging to the Rowan Tree till now). Though since this is a backblip I can say that my suspicions that Mel had drunk a little too much to avoid a hangover were proven true the following day. I didn't exactly force her to have that last glass of wine, but ordering another drink for me, and not one for her, just seemed rude...

Right. Now I just need to choose between the pictures for Sunday's blip - from the main event of the weekend trip, the Annual Dog Sled Rally.

Stay tuned.
