St Nicholas Cole Abbey

I walked from Waterloo to London Wall via the Wobbly Millennium Bridge and took a detour into Distaff Lane to see the rear of this wonderful Wren Church with its weather vane of a ship in full sail. According to Wikipedia (so it must be true) “Cole Abbey” is derived from “coldharbour”, a medieval word for a traveller’s shelter or shelter from the cold. You do indeed learn a new thing every day.
