Queen Victoria enters Leith

Above this plaque on top of the pedestal is a statue of Queen Vic herself, looking slightly un-amused at the scenes of everyday life at the Foot of Leith Walk.

I wondered what else was happening when she 'entered' Leith and chanced upon this account written by herself. She seems to think she entered Leith on Sept 1st, so maybe they got the inscription wrong?

Elsewhere, the First Afghan war was in full swing - her chaps General Pollock and Brigadier Nott against Akbhar Khan. Well, probably not them personally, more like the poor bloody infantry. Plus ca change.....
