Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

By NannaK

Petersburg, Alaska

The good weather keeps on -we flew to Juneau and then to Petersburg Alaska on a plane 80% full of fisherman.. All the conversations we heard were about how to fish and how to cook your catch! Funny. But there were a few people we identified as heading for our boat.
Used by native tribes for thousands of years, the city was only incorporated in 1910. Peter Buschman came here in 1898 and formed the Icy Strait Packing Company as it was close to glacial ice and abundant fishing. In 1900 there were 76 inhabitants all men, most Chinese and the rest Norwegian. When it incorporated in 1910, there were 350 permanent residents , one sawmill, 3 stores, 2 restaurants, and 1 barbershop. Today there are 3, 273 people within the Petersburg Bourough, which was formed in 2012 after the city was dissolved. It covers from Wrangell to Juneau -4347 sq miles - sort of like a county in the lower 48.
Good fish tacos ! Lots of fishing boats in a big harbor surrounded by mountains. It looked gorgeous today!!
In the morning we board the "Island Oddysey" for our adventure and break from daily blips!

This photo is sharp as a tack on the iPad, but not so after it was uploaded. Is it the app? Anyone have this experience? ( this us definitely not the first time)
