An Avid Lensman

That other Religion...

Saturday 19th July

From one religion, yesterday, to another, for many, as they say, in Southampton, today. Huge thanks - I was surprised how popular the Blip of Wimborne Minster would be - it even reached no 5 in the Spotlights!

St Mary's Stadium, home to The "Saints", Southampton's Premier League Football team.

For a Saturday afternoon, this must surely be a rare sight - of course, it being July and out of season - absolutely not a soul to be seen. The sun had just about come out, after nothing but solid greyness up till then. No security personnel to tell me off, just lines and lines of empty cycle spaces...

To many, I must seem a very sad individual. That I actually prefer the architecture than the actual sports going on inside! I felt the same about Cardiff's amazing Millennium Stadium. Home of Welsh rugby and an international venue. I even paid to go on an official tour a few years ago. Yes - just to photograph the architecture!!

Anyway, the office block right at the end of this convergence of receding lines lends the eventual focal point. A polariser helped with the colours whilst the ultrawide Nikkor 10-24mm lens (at 10mm) provided the perspective and thus impact.

So that was the day of bus to Southampton and subsequent walk up through town (via Oxfam's music shop) somehow getting up to Portswood. Listened to some live Ska music in a pub (at 2.30pm!) and then walked back roughly down the railway track down to St Mary's, then to Ocean Village (where I always seem to end up!) and then the last bus back home.
