Inventing reality

Sometimes I think that photography is just the art of skillfully distorting matters until we get the reality we really want to see. First of all we select a limited number of degrees of vision from a 3D world. We might crop after that. We compress and elongate and exaggerate and bend with our choice of lenses. We saturate and desaturate and remove unwanted elements. We clarify and photoshop and increase the contrast and many of us monotize. Nothing wrong with any of this - it is part of the creative process.

So today you get a distorted selfie. Who knows what I really look like?

Alternate distortions.
