Life's tangled skein

Commonwealth Games

Today I wasn't taking part in the Commonwealth Games, I was watching them. And I have to say, I was very impressed by the entire event.

We drove to a Park and Ride car park just outside of Glasgow, where we were directed to a parking space and onto a bus that left within a couple of minutes of our arrival. It took us to a location near Hampden Park, from which we walked to the stadium itself. Even the security checks didn't take long, and we were soon able to wander round the stadium.

Our seats were in about the eighth row from the front, with the very front few rows taken up by coaches and other participants. We were right in front of the landing pit for the triple jump - more about that later.

When it was time to go, we walked back to the bus stop, and there were loads of buses to take us away. The Park and Ride was very well organised indeed, with well-trained security guys there to direct traffic and ensure that we did not have a long wait - before we knew it we were out on the motorway.

As for the sport, I have never been at a large athletics meet before and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was competitive yet friendly, and there was always something going on.

This picture is of Australian Linda Leverton landing in the triple jump. She came in fifth overall, with a distance of 13.69 metres.

There will be loads more pictures to come from this event - all I need is a spare week to process them!
