Some Light Drumming

Taiko sharing night, which means two things: a great, fun, social evening of getting to batter things with sticks; and a gaping gap in the week till the next class starts (in September).

It's a weekly de-stress session, striving to achieve a bit of mu (kind of an empty state of mind). Don't think, just mu, sort of thing. Not always achievable, certainly not recently, but in those tiny fragments of moments when you do the world just disappears. And the adrenaline always carries me home, searching out big beats on the phone to listen to on the walk.

6 weeks (possibly more, the start will likely overlap with a holiday) till I can get that again. Need to find something else to mess around with. Or hit.

I tensed up playing tonight. Couldn't wash the day away (4 and a half hours of meetings, after 5 hours yesterday, and at one point 7 scheduled for tomorrow, but scaled back to... 6 hours), and it showed (to me at least), which is slightly frustrating because a couple of weeks ago I had this down, and my technique took a lurch forward. But still so enjoyable, and thanks must go, not only to the fellow players, but Paddy and Lisa for putting up with so much over the ten weeks, and still actually wanting to teach us this stuff.

Next time I might take the big flash and get away from dark, grainy, 3200ISO, 1/40th images...
