Gently down the stream

Wheat reed

I saw this amazing sight on my trip to north Devon this week. If you go Large you can see the rows of stooks go back right to the tree line. This is wheat grown for thatching reed, cut by a very old fashioned reaper-binder, then placed into stooks by hand. Incredibly long and heavy work. It made me think of Stonehenge - or perhaps the quality was biblical - but walking into a field like this is definitely stepping back in time.

Hope you've all had a good week. As you'll see, I've turned my comments back on. I can't promise to keep them on, but will try xx
