Festival

When I first began coming to St. Céré on holiday nearly forty years ago, it held a wonderful summer festival every year. Music of all kinds. Comedy shows. Art exhibitions. The town was alive with visitors. The TV company Fr3 spent a month in the town covering the events. Today, sadly, the festival is a shadow of its former self. There are only a handful of classical music events and opera, many of them hosted by other towns in the area. It is diffuse, and reduced, and today - at the height of the season - St. Céré felt like a ghost town. Add the lousy summer weather to the mix - ruining the open air opera on the ramparts of the château - and the sense of decline is triste. I can't wait for the tourists to leave, when we'll get the town back to ourselves, and normal life will be resumed.
