Corpach Sea Lock, Caledonian Canal, Scotland,

A poignant start to the day. We shared breakfast with a lady from The Netherlands - she lost a colleague in the recent Malaysian Air disaster in Ukraine. So sad to hear first hand about her nation in mourning.

First stop today, Neptune's staircase, the eight rise of locks in the Caledonian Canal. We saw The Lord of the Glens cruise ship pass through the top lock, it is one of the biggest vessels to use the canal. Then down to the sea lock at Corpach, the entrance to the canal, and views across to Ben Nevis.

We then headed south through Glencoe, stopping for many photos, before a deluge near Bridge of Orchy. The rain was so heavy, we had to stop in a layby. Once the weather improved, we enjoyed a walk out to Kinchurn Castle and then a visit to St Conan's Kirk beside Loch Awe.

This evening in Oban, where we enjoyed views out to Mull from above the town. Then, a delicious meal at The Waterfront Fishouse. I went for squid and pig's cheek for a starter, followed by Cod on a pancake of asparagus and mash. Highlyrecommended.

Thank you to those who dropped by yesterday and sent my image of The Cuillin Ridge to the Spotlight page.
