Cenotaph

This striking cenotaph is sited in Towneley Park, Burnley where we had a small family meet up. I'm not sure the heavily gendered depiction of the impact of war sits comfortably with a modern gaze, but it remains, to me, a powerful piece.

Our visit was for less somber purposes though. We dodged downpours to explore the woods, garden and pitch and putt, saving the house and museum for another visit. A great civic space, well worth making a moderate journey.
