Kipper Cabin

Dusk

Bit of a crap day around noon, but ended up rather pleasant with the Sloans having their annual family barby/dance in their back garden across the road.

Both of them are one of four children, and together they've had four children, and each of their brothers and sisters have had four children, and the children are now having children. So it was quite a crowd. And the Mrs Sloan sings in a really nice band that played in the back garden. An Emmylou Harris/Gram Parsons sort of band, so it was a lovely evening in the neighbourhood. And Michael next door has a guitar shop downtown, so he was there to keep their strings in tune. I was rather hoping they'd invested in a fireworks permit for the occasion. No luck, but fortunately someone a few blocks away had, so there was some blowing off later on.

But get this! My Fred, who's been searching for a job all summer, finally lands one at a sushi restaurant downtown as a dishwasher. Goes in for three hours training two weeks ago, comes home beside himself cos the waitresses have split their tips and he has $40 in his pocket, he's gone out and bought himself a black button-down shirt in case they call on him to bus, scheduled to start tonight at 6pm, telling me last night that he starts at 6pm tonight but will go for 5.30 so's hes changed and ready to go for 6, gets a call at noon today to tell him that they've FOUND SOMEONE ELSE! Found someone else?! I phoned them right back and said "I beg your fucking pardon?" It went downhill from there. Mostly because I don't speak Japenese.

The party at Sloans calmed me down ... a bit.
