Alien Invasion

Two weeks ago I had a shot of a single newly hatched caterpillar climbing a guy rope. Tonight I saw another batch of eggs that looked partly hatched, and sure enough this time there were loads of the little guys coming out into the world, and all heading upwards. This time I went a step further and whacked the cameras on the tripod with the ring flash on (you can see the circle of light on a couple of the heads in full size).

Reckon these critters are about half a mm long - pushing usability of the macro lens to its extreme (they certainly aren't shots to win prizes!).
