The changing face of Peckham

Theis district of South London has always been a village of two halves.

When I did a documentary shoot here for The Times a few years back I found the people reluctant to be photographed. On the north side the main objection was that I might be from the DSS or Immigration Department. In the south, locals feared being photographed might compromise their artistic integrity.

Today I am on the south side where the wall mural (I am told) had been commissioned by Dulwich Picture Gallery (that's it bottom left). The windmill actually exists in Brixton. As for the Spitfires, the artist may have remembered them flying over..
