Going to hell in a handcart

Listening to the generally depressing news on the radio this morning you could be forgiven for thinking that the World is rapidly going to hell in a handcart. Why do we humans hate each other so much? The film noir treatment of this harvest scene reflects my mood today. Doubtless I will feel better tomorrow.
