Tucked away

In an entry off Karangahape Road, is this protest mural. It has been there for many months now, and although I have thought of this as a blip a number of times, there has always been somethingI have preferred.

This morning I had an early run before heading to the hospital for the day's work. I am into the second extension period, which takes me until the end of October. Today was different in that the hospital had had a power failure (from outside the hospital) and for the first 3 hours we were without access to the computers, which meant that we had no access to the patients' clinical notes, which are all electronic now. The emergency lighting at least allowed us to see patients.

The slow start meant a late finish, and although the sunset from the deck was rather special, it didn't show as such in the photos I took. So I opted for this.

Because this has been on the wall for months, rather than just appearing now that the election is less than a month away, it will be allowed to stay. The last Labour Government rushed through a law making it illegal to advertise on behalf of a party or individual unless authorised by an authorised person. People have been fined for having their democratic say. Not the intention of the law, but it is the way it is being interpreted.

New Zealand is a wealthy country with more and more of the wealth being sequestered by a few individuals and companies. Not all of them New Zealand residents. Our present governing party argues that the country is helped by allowing foreign ownership of large and very productive farms on the grounds that the investment produces wealth for the country which is shared. But the foreign owners want a return on their investment and therefore take the increased wealth (and undoubtedly more) out of the country.

The wealth is, indeed, not held in common by the people.
