Be Kind to Unkind People. They Need it the Most.

I saw this quote today, but couldn't find its author. It's a great message to send, particularly when there's much suspicion, fear and uncertainty in our world. Today I've seen friends argue, neighbours fall out and families end the day unhappy, all in the name of something that some call progress.

It's hard to see the future when we're right in the thick of it, but sometimes what we need more than anything is a little time. The past decade in particular has encouraged us live in an almost instant world, bringing with it feelings of getting what we want now, of writing things to people and getting quick replies. Sometimes I long for the days before email (mainly because I get too many), when patience was called for and we could take some time to think before we reply to the many requests we receive. It made me think that we need to remind ourselves every now and then to:

Be kind. It's worthwhile to make an effort to learn about other people and figure out what you might have in common with them. If you allow yourself to be somewhat curious - and if you get into the habit of doing that - it's the first step to being open minded and realizing that your points of view aren't totally opposite.
