Warning!

Red is often used as a warning and the fruit of the yew (Taxus baccata) are typically dull red in colour.

As yew is a conifer, the fruit is not a berry but a modified cone, with a single seed surrounded by a fleshy layer, the aril. The aril itself is not harmful and might be regarded as edible, but the coating of the seed is highly poisonous (as are the leaves).

However attractive this plant is, it will have to be removed before the Flumlet is let loose as it is next to the drive - though not for a few months yet.
