Wednesday 10 February 2010: Pomp and Circumstance

Despite the still arctic temperature, I felt there was a touch of spring in the air and in my step this morning. The sun was a little higher in the sky, and the snowdrops has dared to bloom after being hidden by the snow.

I was intending to go for a blip wander before I started our last minute arrangements, but just I was wondering where to go, this blip fell into my lens. I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing. I've only ever seen black horses complete with plumes pulling a hearse, on the television and I've certainly never in all my long years in Edinburgh seen anything like it in the city.

But there it was, the answer to a harassed blipper's prayer and because there was no coffin inside I felt it was OK to blip it.
With the number of wine shops that have closed here because of the recession, it was ironic that what can just be seen through the glass of the hearse is an advert on the side of a van for a wine merchant.

So an early result today and now it's back to fighting with the rucksack.....
