The Loggia at Misarden House

I"ve been living here for twenty years and have only just discovered this fabulous garden! Misarden house, the several-thousand acre grounds, and the village of Miserden - that is, the houses, the shop, the post office and all the businesses except the pub - are owned by the Wills family, who made Wills Woodbine cigarettes and other tobacco products. Major Wills lives alone in the large house ....

The gardens keep a low profile, but when we joined the Historic Houses Association, I realised we could visit them. As they are only a couple of miles from the farm shop which we often visit, it's an ideal place for a short trip or a picnic, if the season is right.

I enjoyed the tranquility of the location, and the many and varied gardens within gardens. Everyone we stopped and talked to, be they visitor or workman, was very friendly. I shall definitely return in bluebell season.
