CONFLICTS...

I'm not a vegetarian.....i eat meat, fish etc...but i also try to pay attention to how the beings that i consume are dealt with! there is the conflict of course! mostly i buy my meat at the supermarket, wrapped up, and totally unidentifiable....but even altho i do that, i do try to think about the ramifications. Then this evening, when we were out on the beach having a walk (after a very long day in the mudroom) and i got to be witness the folks hauling in their dinner~ I like that, i like that Terry fishes, and we eat his successes! But, here's where i get a tad upset! There was one fisherman who caught a few fish on his lines (this image was taken while he was fishing) one was too small so he released it. It took a few moments, but i watched as that little mackerel found it's strength and swam on! Next i came upon a guy who had caught 4-5 fish on his line.....there they were flopping around on the ground and he didn't seem to think that he needed to deal with their 'end'! i had to say something....so i asked him why they were laying on the beach, flopping, obviously having a very traumatic end....and his only comment was ....'oh they're ok"....to which i replied....'they are dying so i don't think they are ok......couldn't you do it more humanly".... he just game me a rather strange look......i don't think he got it all!

i recognize the hypocrisy, and i guess i am just as much to blame given the fact that i don't kill the chicken or the pigs that i consume....so i do feel very conflicted........dinner is ready, i have to mash the potatoes!
