Afloat

It was pretty much perfect for our final full day. Even I, who'd been shy about jumping into the pool up until now, actually frolicked around in the water four or five times. I was even a bit irresponsible, bringing the camera in with me the last time to get up close and personal with the water. We are blessed where we are. The bungalow complex has three pools, and ours, which is just a few steps away, is probably the best of the bunch.

So, after the splashing around, it was time for a siesta and then we went on a mini mission to print out our boarding passes for tomorrow. I'd used Ryanair's mobile app to check in, but there was some doubt about the bar code display and whether or not the airport here was happy with the technology. In the end, we made our way to a bar we knew provided a printing service (the only reason anyone would go there, because the guy in charge is unbelievably brusk and unfriendly and not at all nice). We'd planned an evening meal in Al Circo restaurant, but it was closed. Then we tried to go back to Mr Greek where we'd been last week but that was closed too, so we ended up in Restaurant Romeo, beside Mr Greek, which was wonderful. I had delicious clear broth (aka consommé) with sherry and a beautiful plate of cod with ratatouille, while Carl went for a three-way filet of beef, pork and chicken. It was a perfect experience for our last night.

All too often, plans to roll out the barrel on the last night of a holiday come to nothing and it can be a disappointment, but we were wonderfully lucky tonight. We began in Bar Eiffel, which was one of our favourite places from our previous stay. A strawberry daiquiri launched the boat, followed by a house special cocktail and a delightful kir royale to finish. Then it was upstairs in Yumbo to one little bar and then another. We ended up in a tiny place with a Bulgarian barman where we had the best time of the holiday, chatting with him and meeting other customers from here there and everywhere until the very small hours.
