Now and...

then.

I don't think we ever stopped talking and laughing about old memories and stories of the present from the moment Peter & Suzanne arrived. Their children are in their 30s, they have a new life in North Carolina, but still New England roots. They still spend some weeks in Maine on Peaks Island at Pete's old shared family cottage. S has a mum almost 97 in Massachusetts, so they do get up to visit. We were lucky that they were with her at Christmas and New Year's Eve so they were able to come to our wedding. There was no time to chat really that night, so this visit was a gift. They left this morning for a family wedding on Nantucket Island.

Our first jobs in Van Buren made a big impact on us, we learned so much about our adult selves and leaned on each other in so many ways. Far from home, we never felt alone. those feelings are just as deep, 43 years later. I love them. Oh, and Peter got in trouble for his untied shoes, just like the old days.

For the Record,
This day came in bright and dry. A wonderful day to take a big breath after all our activities of the past week and begin to relax. Chipmunks and Nelson and my patio lounge chair are calling....

All hands healthy

Van Buren in winter and a fleeting glimpse of warmth .
