Roosting rights

I deferred my run until this afternoon, to avoid the rain. Good thing, as after today I needed a run to clear the mind . Our hotel is close to the edge of Lake Rotorua, and I ran to the lake edge and along a path which took me through low scrub with lots of bird life in the trees and on the water.

I heard the gulls long before I reached this wee promontory into the lake. As I approached I saw the gulls and the shags swooping in to land in the tree, and on the rocks. The shags were silent (to human ears anyway), and the gulls more than made up for that.

The gulls swooped at the shags, who declined to move away. If one did move somewhere else, the spot was quickly taken by at least one gull.

Worth seeing large
