Edinburgh Napier

Today I visited Edinburgh Napier University's Craiglockhart Campus. Like every other university at this time of the year, the campus was abuzz with activity. Lots of new students were arriving to pick up keys for student accommodation and were being greeted by freshers' team volunteers as they did so.

Away from the activity, I found this plaque which commemorates a visit by then PM Margaret Thatcher on the occasion of the establishment of Napier Polytechnic in 1987. A change which set the scene for the establishment of 'modern universities' not long after.

Craiglockhart itself has a fascinating history, having been home to poets such as Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen during the First World War.
