Mutatis mutandis

Me and Emma had a train trip to Helsinki today - what a great day we had! We arrived at 10:30 and left at 18:00.

First we walked to Ateneum art museum to see Tove Jansson's exhibition that will end tomorrow. There was about 200 m queue outside the building so we decided to visit there later today. Instead we went to Starbucks, because the queue there wasn't too long

Then we went to Kauppatori to see Toimmi Toija's more than 8 metres high sculpture The Bad bad boy - a Finnish version of Manneken Pis. I hope Helsinki city will buy it and leave the boy where it is now. It's wonderful.

Next we went to see the hotel Manta. Hotel Manta of Helsinki is a hotel room built around the statue of Manta in the central Market Square. The space designed by Japanese artist Tatzu Nishi serves as a hotel room by night, and as an open exhibition space during the day. The work creates a surrealist setting for the monument and it offers a new perspective on the statue. Manta can now be met at eye level.

Then we searched a new backbag for Emma. We found a Kånken from Partioaitta for her.

After that we walked to the art museum Amos Andersson to see Tommi Toija's exhibition Mutatis mutandis . We absolutely loved his charmingly subtle little clay people! In the picture is a part of one of his sculptures.

After seeing Toija's little people we headed to Burger King to get a lunch. We went to Esplanadi park for a picnic - it was very warm and summery and there were lot's of other people enjoying the sun and having a picnics.

Then Emma did some shopping, we went for a coffee to Stockmann and then to Kamppi shopping center. Emma spent her time there while I went to Taidehalli art museum to see Hilma af Klint's works. Her paintings were as impressive as in Berlin. It's unbelievable that she painted all those abstract works in early 1900's.

Finally we walked to Ateneum again but what a disappointment that the doors were closed already at 16:40! So we missed it.

It was in total a 20 000 steps trip. Emma is perfect companion for a city trip, we'll travel to Helsinki together sometimes later again! In train we were exhausted and were happy that Leevi promised to pick us up from the railway station.
