Dun an Oir Castle

An early start to catch the ferry from Baltimore to Cape Clear Island for the story telling festival. It was very grey and misty all the more atmospheric to view Dun an Oir castle on the North West side of the Island. Story telling on a boat was one of the events and one I'd not been on before, this castle is one of the many O'Driscoll fortresses built along the coast. It dates to about 1450 and according to our captain, the O'Dricolls were Pirates! The castle is thought to have been built on an old promontory fort. We saw seals and Dolphins, heard to stories from two different tellers and drank tea, very grateful for that as I was so chilled!
Another afternoon session with a story teller from Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire she had a great tale to tell. Supper followed by the evening performance, all five story tellers on the stage, a fabulous event and an enjoyable walk back to out yurt in the moonlight.
