Long Way Down

Janice looks down into the atrium of the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver, Colorado, from the seventh floor, where our room has a view out over downtown. This an amazing, old world hotel, with top class service and a choice of eateries. We arrived, hungry and tired, after our flight from Houston, Texas, losing yet another hour in the process. We are now in Mountain Time, staying for two days in the city that is one mile high. On previous visits I have experienced mild altitude sickness - but not this time. Not having eaten since our Houston BBQ the previous evening, we made straight for one of several restaurants to feast on Kobe beef burgers with sweet potato fries, washed down with a wonderful Argentinian Malbec - then slept for a couple of hours.

It's an early start tomorrow, when I have to get a taxi to a Denver radio station for a 30-minute live interview, and I think I might entertain the possibility of a deep back massage in the afternoon before my evening event at the city's largest bookstore, The Tattered Cover.

The Denver Broncos are playing at home tonight in the Mile High Stadium, in their first game of the new NFL season, but we won't be going.
