Simply Me

You know nothing...

Of course I’m not talking about that Jon Snow, this one actually knows quite a lot!

Jon Snow has been the face of Channel 4 News since 1989 and I remember watching him from an early age. He has covered the news from all over the world and been present at some of the most memorable events including the fall of the Berlin Wall and the release of Nelson Mandela.

The Channel 4 website tells me that he’s received numerous awards, including:

• The Richard Dimbleby Bafta award for Best Factual Contribution to Television (2005)
• The Royal Television Society awards for Journalist of the Year (2006), and
• Presenter of the Year (2009)

I have a lot of respect for the man – on facebook I recently watched a video he shot to show how reporting from Gaza had emotionally affected him. He made the video in a Channel 4 news studio, but it was only broadcast online so as not to contravene rules governing impartiality in news programmes. It was brave and compassionate.

He is a complete legend and on top of that, a really lovely man. He is in Edinburgh tonight covering the Referendum and it just so happens that Channel 4 will be reporting from our building this evening for a special show called 'The Great British Break Up?' at 10pm tonight. So he is here all day setting up and getting ready.

We asked him for a photo and he was only too obliging – he came into the main office, shook my hand, kissed each cheek and we had a brief conversation. He had so much time for us and also lifted his trousers so we could get a sock shot! They weren’t as bright as they usually are, but I think his tie more than makes up for it!
