A Tangled Web...

…with a well camouflaged spider liking within…

I watched the reading of the Scottish Independence Referendum votes on the BBC last night. I confess that part of my interest was purely superficial. I am a sucker for a Scots accent, and there were plenty on display as the elections officer from each council read the results, including the man from Eilean Siar who read them in Gaelic.

The high turnout was certainly a testament to the passions generated by the question and also, I think, that Westminster and Holyrood still have a lot of work to do. The people of Scotland have spoken, but Scotland will not be the same.

Here on this side of the pond life moves inexorably on. The fields grow drier, the creeks continue to drop, and the rivers are going underground, leaving gravel beds and cracked earth. We had a bit of rain yesterday, the tail-end of tropical storm Polo off Baja, California. It was hot and humid and not refreshing.  OilMan has been doing battle with an infestation of mealy bugs which are doing in our Sempervivum (Hens and Chicks). Ozzie has three pounds to go on his weight loss plan (No treats except carrots) and two cups of food a day.

Dana's birthday was two days ago, but got lost in the shuffle of taking care of our dog, driving boys to a distant soccer game and gifts that got ordered but not delivered on time. Our wishes for a wonderful year are no less heartfelt for being a bit late. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our firstborn child and only daughter. You are a treasure, and I don't know what we would have done without you the last couple of years. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
