The clear up begins

Who knows what next, but we woke to the news today that our country had voted by 55% to 45% to remain part of the UK and not to become independent.

Everything felt grey and flat today, and later the First Minister announced that he would step down as leader of the Scottish National Party at the November party conference. No matter your opinion of the man, he'll be missed in Scottish Politics as someone who stood up for what he believed in.

I suspect that the press camp outside Holyrood were really hoping for a yes vote so that they could be sensational in their reporting. I was ready to suffer if it had gone Yes, as I thought it would mean a huge struggle. But now, well, to be honest, I'm rather relieved, and a little disappointed. Conflicted, rather than a fence-sitter.
