On the level

It's the only photo I took all day so I'll go with it. Doing a small amount of work before becoming distracted from the task in hand, I was struck by the pleasure of working with my hands and using tools that had been handled over so many years. The spirit level used to be my Dad's. He had a little tool which punched his name on all his wooden tools. This was when he was a joiner before WW2. These days tools are throw away but in those days a good tool would last a lifetime (if properly looked after as Dad would always tell me) - and beyond.
And the little stool which the spirit level sits on was his mother's kitchen stool. A handy thing for sawing on, and having the occasional rest.
