Aignish memorial

We had some time to fill between finishing work and starting judo classes, so we took a drive a little bit along the road to visit the land raid memorial at Aignish in the Point area of Lewis. This impressive sculpture commemorate the time local people "raided" the Aignish Farm in January 1888 to demand that it should be broken down into crofts and given back to the landless and hungary people. The establishment at that time called the event "a riot" but yesterdays rioters are now todays heroes. Perhaps there is a lesson from history for us in that somewhere.
