Larking at Maughanasilly

What a day! The monthly West Cork blipmeet beautifully organised by Bat . We rendezvoused at her house : TJ , Himself , Michael, , CarolineL and Bat's just arrived French wwoofer, Max. We dined off squash soup and still warm scones, then had a quick wander around her land. TJ and I were chased by a fierce goose and we all marvelled at the size of Delilah, a truly massive pig.

We then headed of into the hills down windy paths, up onto moorland arriving at Kealkil - a five stone circle, two huge standing stones and a radial cairn, plus incredible views down into Bantry Bay. Next stop we went across the road, through bog to inspect the wrecked stone circle plus huge boulder burials at Breeny Mor . We then had a quick look around Carriganass castle before abandoning cars and walking higher up onto the mountain with sweeping views down into the Melagh valley. It was wonderful - a couple of ruins to keep us happy, masses of mountain and lots of wild flowers and colour.
Here we are assembled and blipping madly at Maughanasilly stone row which enigmatically points to the setting moon, or so the board informed us. Back down into Kealkil and TomSean , who couldn't be with us, had organised tea and biscuits in a pub run by his sister - very welcome indeed. A final stop at a holy well (has to be done) and we dispersed wrecked but satisfied.
Beans on toast, glass of wine and a relax now.
