Last day for Harborne Public Baths

Opened in 1923, this popular, tiny community centred public baths is closing today for two years while redevelopment takes place - two new pools and a fitness centre.

The closure and redevelopment is the subject of much local passion - it's shambolic interior has been the centre of much social activity over the past 80 years and is a real step back in time- in a good way. It is sad that this building will be demolished to make way for a new horrible design (well, based on the present drafts anyway) but on the other hand, Harborne really needs a lift.
