Lack of light

Had to save some energy today for a trip to town with dear daughter. She had been paid her first wage for the Saturday/Sunday job which she started a few weeks ago. There was certainly no doubt in her mind that she would be flush with funds as she headed to check her balance at the bank. Spending would follow.

It was an interesting lesson. Make-up has been a bone of contention between us. How many products are required before the average teenager is allowed to leave the house? Now that she was empowered with her own earnings, there was a lesson to be learned in exactly how long she had to work in order to earn enough money to buy the expensive eye-shadows she favours. So after running up an enormous bill in Harvey Nichols, we repaired to a local coffee shop to survey the damage. Then, armed with the courage she required, she returned to the shop and gave back half of her purchases. Lesson learned. Hearing her say "I can't afford all this" to the sales assistant. And a promise to return next month to complete the transaction once she had earned some more money. My work is done.

Sorry about the rubbish pic. It was too dark to capture the shot I wanted. This tree, in one of the gardens in the New Town, has been a joy to look at as its vibrant yellow leaves turned. But I was en route for a curry with friends and already late by the time I passed on foot. Spice Pavilion - delish!
