Cabot Trail Writer's Festival...

was this week end and this is Jane Urquhart. She is one of Canada's best known writers, i have read a few of her books and would highly recommend her as a great author - not that i'm any authority, i just love a good book!

We all went to the Gaelic College on friday evening for the opening gala event. It was pretty fabulous...great food (it's always a big attraction!), and readings from all the authors. The main theme for this year's festival was a tribute to Alistair MacLeod, not only a Canadian legend, but a huge Cape Breton legend. most of his stories take place here! Unfortunately he passed away this spring....... he was supposed to be in attendance.....so they made it even more of a tribute by dedicating the evenings event to him! It was so moving and beautiful. His son Alexander MacLeod gave such a moving tribute to his Dad....i can say with some certainty there wasn't a dry eye in the audience!

Traditionally, on the saturday of the festival, there are workshops given by all the authors. Sunday is a more laid back event, with 4 of the authors taking part in a panel discussion. It was lively and very entertaining indeed. Jane (not Urquhart, but Alderdice!) and i had a great time together! I just have to say how wonderful it is to have this old friend of mine by my side at these various events....so cool!

You can the photo i took of Alexander here
