Max And Monty

This was Max and Monty's last public appearance of the year, fresh from their award-winning trials at Newbury the previous weekend, where they had come 4th out of 10 entries in the single Trade Class and 2nd out of 11 entries in the Pairs Trade Class. They were in the forecourt at SCATS in Devizes where I was given a cup of coffee and got to chat to the handlers, including Callum, who you can partly see in this blip, and took loads of pictures. They will of course still be making daily deliveries to pubs in the Devizes area, and are the only shire horses left in the country to be both working and show horses.

There was also an exhibition put on by the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust in the Market Square which I went along to afterwards, and was pleased to find M Gale's Hawking Days, who I had seen earlier in the year at Easton Royal, had a stand there, so I was reunited with a number of birds of prey, including the young snowy owl, Neva, who had by now lost a lot of her fluffy juvenile feathers, and Lunar, the barn owl that I had blipped before. They have a golden eagle that wasn't in attendance but there was a lanner falcon called Larry that I hadn't seen before.

An outing is obviously incomplete without a swan sighting, and I found a cygnet being fed on the canal at Devizes Wharf close to where I had parked on Dyehouse Lane.
